Job Summary: The Coding Supervisor oversees the day-to-day coding work queues, work assignments, personnel, and serves as a coding resource to team members. In addition, the supervisor codes accounts on a daily basis. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Codes and abstracts records - Accurately and completely assigns appropriate diagnosis and procedural ICD-9-CM and/or CPT/HCPCS codes to the greatest specificity with a minimum 95 ¬curacy rate. - Accurately and completely abstracts all required data into the appropriate data fields in compliance with statistical data requirements with a minimum accuracy rate. - Accurately assigns correct APC a minimum accuracy rate. - Meets productivity standards - Queries physicians when needed to further clarify code assignments Manages additional coding responsibilities, contributing to the CFB (candidate for bill) goals, including but not limited to - Resolves coding edits and reminders, correcting abstracting and coding issues in a timely manner (1-2 business days) - Completes and routes problem accounts, ready to code, high dollar and other accounts daily to ensure coded as close to goal date as possible - Completes assigned work by goal date - Assists with coding unassigned or backlogged accounts Coding Coordination and Team Supervision - Monitors coding work queues to assure compliance to coding CFB goals and turnaround times. - Troubleshoots and trends uncoded accounts and edits with coding team as well as other departments, partnering with Coding Team Leader and other leaders. - Assists in conducting sporadic or specified medical record documentation reviews to assure quality code assignment when needed - Monitors productivity of coding staff - Assists in recruiting, training and onboarding of new hire and contract coders. - Coordinates scheduling and coverage of respective coding functions and work queues in partnership with manager and other supervisors; seeking budgetary and managerial approval when needed - Fields coding questions as needed in area of expertise (i.e. inpatient, outpatient, or ED coding). - Attends meetings and participates on task teams as necessary to represent Coding - Supervises personnel, including payroll, evaluations, coaching and constructive feedback when needed - Advocates for issue and improvement opportunities on behalf of the coders Other duties as assigned Required Minimum Education: Some high school Required and Anatomy and Physiology course Required and Bachelor's Degree Preferred Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
