Vertiv has a transformational opportunity in Pelzer, SC for a Supervisor, Test Engineering to lead a local team of Test Technicians on the setup and execution of design validation testing for its products. This role oversees the day-to-day activities of the Integrated Solutions lab facilities and is responsible for the safe operation of the equipment. In addition to safety, the Supervisor is responsible for keeping the lab facilities clean and organized following the company's 5S policy. The Supervisor collaborates with the Test Technicians on the daily assignment of technicians to the various activities.

Responsibilities

  • Planning the capital and operation expenses on a yearly basis. Likewise, they are responsible for tracking the capital and operational spend on a quarterly basis. This role is responsible for the replacement and repairs of all lab equipment. On a yearly basis, the Supervisor, Test Engineering shall review the inventory of equipment and decide which if any equipment should be scrapped. This role also ensures all lab equipment is calibrated per the company's policy.
  • Provide periodic updates to the IS Director with regards to budgetary items, 5S and Safety, employee performance, and process improvement opportunities. The Supervisor, Test Engineering provides performance reviews of their direct reports as per the company policy. This role is responsible for maintaining the test technician job description; for interviewing candidates; for implementing employee corrective action when needed per company policy; for recommending employee compensation increases; for keeping the safety training records up to date for everyone that works in the engineering test bays.
  • Occasional face-to-face customer witness tests and is responsible for allocating test technicians, setting up audio and visual tools so that the customer has a world class experience while at Vertiv. Moreover, this position ensures safety of the customer, which may include conducting safety discussion with the customers prior to them entering the test bays.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Product Testing
  • Conduct a daily stand-up meeting to review the daily workload and assign Test Technicians.
  • Direct day-to-day activities of the Test Technicians.
  • Walk through the labs several times a day to verify work is progressing, test bays are operating safely, and test bays are adhering to 5S.
  • Work with Test Engineers to design special test fixtures
  • Assist with troubleshooting of failing test cases and/or test equipment.
  • Lab Facilities
  • Schedule repair for equipment when needed.
  • Schedule "downtime" for all technicians for 5S and Safety activities to maintain the test labs.
  • Develop yearly capital expense plan and track the spend quarterly.
  • Develop yearly operational expense plan and track the spend quarterly.
  • Schedule time to cycle test equipment through the calibration process.
  • Trace the calibration certification to the unit(s) under test for a given period of time in a given test bay.
  • Employee Development
  • Conduct 1-on-1 performance reviews with each Test Technician as per the company policy.
  • Schedule brief 1-on-1 conversation with each Test Technician more frequent than the official company policy.
  • Maintain the safety training records for all employees that use the test bays.
  • Schedule equipment training periodically and as needed.
  • Schedule safety training.
  • Contribute to the merit cycle.
  • Process Improvement
  • Present ideas on how to improve the facilities efficiency and how to improve the test process.
  • Example, through test automation, data storage and retrieval speed, lab expansion, lab consolidation etc.
  • Conduct Lessons Learned meetings with the Test Engineers and Test Technicians.
  • Accountabilities:
  • Meet or exceed new product development and new product introduction requirements and deadlines.
  • Sign off on test results and product release readiness.
  • Adequately address and resolve through interaction with human resources, employee relations issues, performance issues, succession planning, etc.
  • Meet goals and objectives as outlined by business leaders
QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience validating products through the development process.
  • Highly process focused.
  • Experience designing and testing hardware, software and power products.
  • Well versed on tools and techniques to properly plan, track test activities and to ensure products are thoroughly tested.
  • Strong ability to recognize and willingness to investigate and evaluate alternative practices.
  • Ability to interface with customers and to demonstrate product performance/compliance relative to customer needs.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
