The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for the position of Teaching Associate-German at the University Laboratory High School. Uni High is a 5-year public school serving approximately 330 academically motivated students in grades 8-12. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track academic staff position for the 2025-2026 school year, beginning August 2025, contingent upon the successful completion of a fingerprint-based criminal background check. A laboratory mission of innovative curriculum development, outreach to other schools and the community, and/or involvement with professional organizations is part of the overall job responsibilities. The salary range for this position is $43,000- $58,000.
The Teaching Associate position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois and the Uni Faculty Organization/IEA-NEA union. Responsibilities
- Teach all levels of German (German I through German IV) to academically advanced students in grades 8-12.
- Contribute to the school's laboratory mission through curriculum development, instructional dissemination, or public engagement.
- Participate in school activities typically required of teachers, including attending faculty and department meetings, serving on committees, and supporting school functions and student activities.
Position QualificationsRequired-
- Bachelor's degree in German or Teaching of German.
- Demonstrated effective and creative teaching experience.
- Advanced oral proficiency in German.
Preferred-
- Advanced degree in German or equivalent training.
- Native or near-native oral proficiency in German.
- High school-level teaching experience in the United States.
- Expertise in developing instructional materials and designing innovative curricula.
- Strong knowledge of German culture and literature.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Eligibility for or possession of an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL).
- Active involvement in professional organizations and experience with outreach activities.
- Technological literacy, including proficiency with educational tools and platforms.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is August 1, 2025. The salary range for this position is $43,000-$58,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining, agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
