Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Biology (Ecology)

Kenyon College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Biology starting in July 2025. We seek a broadly trained biologist with expertise in ecology at or above the community level. To complement current faculty expertise, we seek candidates whose primary research focus is on plants, invertebrates, fungi, and/or microbes. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching, including strong academic support, inclusive course experiences, and effective mentoring for our diverse student population. Teaching expectations are 5 courses per year, including introductory biology as well as existing (e.g., Ecology, Ecology Lab) and/or new courses at the upper level. We are especially interested in an ecologist with a strong quantitative component to their training, teaching, and/or research, as the hire will contribute one course per year to Kenyon's interdisciplinary Program in Computing (e.g., Ecological Modeling, Data Science in R, Data Visualization, Mathematical Biology etc.). Additional opportunities exist for interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship within and outside the sciences. We expect a vigorous research program that involves undergraduate students, leads to publications, and has potential to attract extramural funding. Applicants should hold a Ph.D degree; post-doctoral experience is preferred. We encourage applications from all groups historically underrepresented in the sciences.

A complete application will be composed of 1) a cover letter; 2) a Curriculum Vitae; 3) a ~2-page statement of the applicant's teaching philosophy that includes the applicant's experiences and plans for teaching diverse student populations 4) a statement of the applicant's research and scholarship that includes plans for collaborative research with undergraduates; 5) unofficial transcript; and 6)contact information for three professional references. All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon's employment website: http://careers.kenyon.edu. Review of applications will begin on September 1, 2024. Please direct questions to Iris Levin, Search Committee Chair (levin1@kenyon.edu).
