Job Description:


The Department of Psychology at Binghamton University, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is seeking exceptional candidates for a tenured Associate or Full Professor position to begin Fall 2025.


This appointment, sponsored by the SUNY Empire Innovation Program, is broadly construed at the intersection of computational cognition and mental health. This entails integrative research that connects the study of the human mind, the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) and/or data science methods, and applications to mental health and wellness. A primary focus for the search is externally funded research that leverages machine learning and/or other computational approaches to study cognitive processes along with their role in psychiatric and neurological disorders, dysfunctional cognitive aging, or other aspects of mental health broadly construed.


The position will be housed in the Cognitive & Brain Sciences area of the Psychology Department, so the ideal candidate should augment existing research foci including behavioral, computational, neuroimaging, and developmental/lifespan approaches to memory, language, categorization, perception, reasoning, and decision-making. The successful candidate will also be expected to interact collaboratively with faculty in the Clinical area of the Psychology Department and members of the growing Machine Learning and Data Science community across campus. This position is part of the University's broader mission to create a systems-based, holistic, and integrated program for mental health research, leveraging the transformative potential of AI and advanced data science and analytics. The goal is to hire faculty who are national leaders in this interdisciplinary area and to establish Binghamton University as a leader in this space.

Requirements:


The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in psychology or a related discipline and is expected to have a record of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating significant experience in the use of computational methods to study human cognition and its relationships to mental health, broadly construed. They should also have been Principal Investigator for an awarded extramural grant in support of their research. Applicants who also have experience in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels are especially welcome.
