Job Title: VP of Transportation



Location: Continental U.S. (Preferred locations: Wilder, KY or Canonsburg, PA)



Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and self-motivated individual to join our team as the VP of Transportation. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of management experience in the for-hire trucking and transportation brokerage industry. This role demands a strategic leader with in-depth knowledge of trucking operations, fleet optimization, heavy haul logistics, and regulatory compliance. The VP of Transportation will oversee all aspects of our transportation operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and profitability.



Key Responsibilities:


* Oversee and optimize for-hire trucking and transportation brokerage operations.
* Implement best practices for fleet management, maintenance, and shop operations.
* Manage heavy haul trucking operations, including the transportation of overweight and oversized loads.
* Ensure compliance with federal motor carrier safety regulations and applicable employment laws.
* Develop and enforce safety protocols and accident response strategies.
* Manage the financial aspects of heavy haul operations, including costing, rates, and warehousing.
* Oversee budgeting processes and manage the business unit's profit and loss statement.
* Utilize current technology software and hardware best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
* Leverage telematics data (e.g., Samsara) for performance metrics and accident avoidance.
* Lead driver recruiting, hiring, and training programs.
* Manage both union and non-union workforces effectively.
* Establish performance metrics and training for drivers and sales employees.
* Market transportation services to potential customers and maintain strong customer relationships.
* Train sales employees to deliver high levels of customer service.
* Conduct transportation brokerage operations, including carrier selection, qualification protocols, and load board management.
* Avoid double brokering and ensure proper insurance coverage for operations.
* Develop and maintain contracts with owner-operators.
* Ensure all contractual obligations are met and aligned with company standards.

Qualifications:


* Minimum of 10 years of management experience in for-hire trucking and transportation brokerage.
* In-depth knowledge of fleet optimization, truck and trailer maintenance, and shop operations.
* Strong understanding of heavy haul logistics, including crane and crane component hauling (preferred but not required).
* Comprehensive knowledge of federal motor carrier safety regulations and employment laws.
* Familiarity with current technology software and hardware best practices in the industry.
* Proven ability to manage financial aspects of trucking operations, including profit and loss statements.
* Exceptional ability to hire, train, and motivate employees.
* Strong marketing skills and customer service orientation.
