Position Overview:
This position leads the transformation and continued evolution of Compeer's software engineering team, creating the capability to drive innovation through emerging technologies and maturing product development capabilities. Partners with leaders across Compeer to understand technology needs and collaboratively develop technology strategy, including transitioning to cloud-based development. Provides guidance and vision to agile product teams on technologies, tools and techniques that contribute to solutions that are delivered timely, are performant, high quality, highly usable, secure and maintainable. This position offers ahybrid work option up to 50% remote, and is open to any Compeer office location in Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Essential Functions:

Strategic Leadership and Execution (45%)

  • Champions the brand; serves as a role-model for the vision, mission and values of the organization. Supports Compeer's strategic initiatives.
  • Develops and executes a transformation strategy and roadmap to evolve Compeer's software engineering teams, developing the capabilities needed to drive innovation through emerging technologies and creating a digital-capable organization
  • Defines and shapes an engineering culture and mindset across the team; creates a high-trust environment where best practices such as "blameless retros" are highly-effective.
  • Leads the team to develop and mature Cloud-based software engineering and Product Development capabilities, including but not limited to CI/CD, IaC, Microservices Architectures, Containerization, Serverless Computing, Automated Testing, API management and environment consistency
  • Develops and matures innovation, experimentation and rapid-development capabilities within the development team and in partnership with Compeer businesses and functions
  • Partners across the BT Team including with DevOps, Enterprise Architecture and Security & Risk Management to align on strategy and accelerate development and deployment of digital products
  • Drives continuous improvement across software engineering capabilities by keeping abreast of industry best practices and identifying and executing improvement initiatives that enhance the teams capabilities and value delivery.
  • Leads diverse activities through multiple levels of management; has accountability for major deployment of business segment or enterprise-wise operations.
  • Contributes to enterprise function and/or business segment long term direction and strategy.
  • Tracks and communicates performance of all technology development and delivery from projects to daily operations. Drives process improvement to support delivery excellence.

Team Leadership (25%)
  • Creates and promotes a positive culture and work environment that leverages the talents and abilities of team members in achieving the goals of the Technology Development and Delivery team.
  • Creates and promotes a values & trust-based culture of high-performance and execution across the Technology Development & Delivery team.
  • Selects, develops, motivates, and engages great talent to create and maintain a high-performing team; ensure a talent-pipeline to meet the future needs of the team.
  • Effectively initiates, inspires and leads change within the team, BT and at times across the Compeer organization.
  • Creates/modifies team structure and identifies capabilities and roles needed to evolve the Technology Development & Delivery team as new capabilities and technologies such as Cloud-based development technologies are introduced to the organization.
  • Determines performance standards and development plans and effectively communicates them to team members.
  • Manages the evaluation and compensation processes for direct and indirect reports.
  • Drives continuous process improvement and develops best practices within the team.
  • Coaches team members on more complex and challenging issues and decisions.
  • Manages human capital budget and forecasting.

Development and Delivery Process Management (20%)
  • Manages processes for the delivery of technical solutions (building, testing, supporting and enforcing processes).
  • Supports all phases of the iTAP process (intake, estimation, prioritization, scheduling, delivery and solution).
  • Assists with the budget planning process for development and delivery of technology solutions.
  • Establishes business segment-wide technical standards, policies and procedures around solution development to ensure a consistent approach and controls are maintained throughout the application development process.
  • Participates and responds to audit and regulatory bodies.

Industry Expertise (10%)
  • Integrates functional and business knowledge to anticipate changing business direction.
  • Networks with Compeer leaders and outside solution delivery focused professionals to support and ensure positive business technology solutions.
  • Is a trusted sponsor for technical practice initiatives and communities of practice (DevOps, Quality Design and Agile).
  • Maintains relevant knowledge of current and emerging technology, tools, and techniques in the financial services market.
  • Participates as an iTAP Advisory Member and shares expertise and insight across the committee.
  • Provides updates to advisors regarding agile team metrics, estimates, schedules and suggestions from BT leaders.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US. Compeer is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
  • Minimum of 10 years of information technology experience, preferably in a financial institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership and management experience preferred.
  • Exceptional people leadership and talent development skills including the ability to select, evaluate, engage, motivate, mentor, train, delegate, reward and lead team members.
  • High learning agility with demonstrated ability to apply past experiences and learnings successfully in new situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage values-based leadership to shape and influence culture; able to lead in a hybrid work environment.
  • Proven experience leading technology transformation and change initiatives.
  • Proven ability to develop high-impact technology strategy.
  • High degree of curiosity across leadership and technology disciplines.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Expert-level knowledge of product development and agile solution delivery principles.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams to achieve goals and represent the business.
  • Demonstrated success in implementation of large, complex programs.
  • Strong strategic thinker, able to deliver tactical deliverables.
  • Solid project management skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
