JOB SUMMARY

JOB TITLE: Wastewater Operator 6

SUMMARY:

  • This position is responsible for monitoring and operating all equipment in the wastewater process to maintain compliance with local regulations.
  • Learn all jobs necessary to perform all positions at the Full Treatment plant.
  • Assists team members in case of emergencies or during slack time.
  • Inform supervisor of any mechanical breakdown or problem.
  • Keeps work area clean and safe.
  • Completes all necessary documentation.
  • May perform preventative maintenance or maintenance on equipment in assigned work area.
  • Perform laboratory analysis of wastewater by EPA & State approved methods.
  • Maintains and keeps up-to-date process control results and required regulatory paperwork.
  • Able to work on pumps as needed.
  • Able to operate all pumps and complex machinery associated with the wastewater plant.
  • Ensures discharged water meets EPA and government regulations.
  • Monitor all wastewater equipment during shift to ensure system is operating efficiently.
  • Uses chemicals to do analytical lab work, operation of processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Must be able to hear and respond to two-way radio.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders up to 25 feet.
  • Willing to participate and demonstrates team effort.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to withstand heat, cold, inclement weather and odors.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to do a lot of walking.
  • Must be able to operate forklift to help move equipment and unload chemicals.
  • Must obtain Class 1 Industrial Wastewater license within first year (12 months) of hire date into MS-WWTO position.
  • Must successfully complete "Industrial Waste Treatment, Volume I" and "Industrial Waste Treatment, Volume II" correspondence courses through California State University Sacramento within the same twelve months.
  • Prefer minimum 6-months' experience in wastewater facility.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and some weekends in place of all other operators on all shifts and days.
  • Must observe and comply with all safety and hygiene policies.
  • loading and unloading supplies to wastewater plant including 55-gallon drums, bulk tank trucks, and full pallets of 50 lb. bags,
  • help with loading wet/dry sludge into outside trucks,
  • completing all necessary documentation,
  • performing preventative maintenance or maintenance on equipment in assigned work area,
  • assisting with plant clean-up on a continuous basis during your shift
  • and all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Skills:
  • Must be able to use basic hand tools.
  • Requires specific state wastewater license (if applicable).
  • Must obtain advance license through Tyson training courses or outside training.
  • Ability to do basic math.

Education:
  • Must have GED or high school diploma.

Experience:
  • Prefer minimum 6-months' experience in wastewater facility.

Computer Skills:
  • Must have basic computer skills and be able to input data into spreadsheets.

Travel:
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to acquire wastewater training.
